Endangered Austin

As part of a larger project, I photographed sites and subjects around Austin I felt represented our unique way of life but were likely to disappear as the city grew. I used an antique Brownie camera that didn’t allow much control of the final image, making for a dubious outcome, then manipulated the images digitally, both as metaphor for the tenuous intersection of the past, present and future.

Some of the subjects have indeed been demolished or retired and some are standing strong, so the images serve as both memorial and testament to the spirit of the City that prevails.
